Animal Aromatics founder Sam Barrett lives in Hertfordshire on her family smallholding with her 4 horses and her new addition, Angus the Border terrier. Sam founded Animal Aromatics 3 years ago after qualifying as a Herbal Choices Practitioner and a Clinical Nutrition Consultant.
Sam’s background is in the world of equine and canine therapy and rehabilitation. Her business Back In Line has given her some amazing experiences of treating a wide variety of horses and dogs from elite athletes to pets and even farm animals including cows, sheep and alpacas.
“During the last 16 years of animal practice, I have strived to adopt the ‘holistic’ approach to animal musculo-skeletal therapy and have added several therapies to my tool box. But I always felt something was missing. There were gaps in my knowledge that needed to be filled if I was going to be able to help more animals, and what better way than combining my knowledge and passion for animals and my lifelong curiosity for natural medicine.”
Sam has seen at first hand how inappropriate feeds and management systems cause imbalances of the sensitive gut microbiome causing serious diseases of the gut including ulcers, colitis, leaky gut and laminitis. Research even links Lyme’s disease and Uveitis to an unhealthy gut microbiome.
“The old saying ‘you are what you eat’ is more important now than ever to remember when feeding and managing animals. I’ve studied the research and its clear we need healthier gut microbiomes to prevent diseases. That’s the reasons I’ve taken time to develop Animal Aromatics which offers the herbs animals chose themselves with nutraceuticals and supplements research has shown really do work.”
